Attatchment Style + Adoptees

This project was completed for my COMM Senior Seminar 'Functions of Communication.' Throughout the class, we explored various themes including the dark and bright sides of relationships, Relational Dialectics Theory, narcissistic behaviors, attachment theory, love addiction, and ambiguous loss. For our final project, we were required to first create a portfolio before developing a work product of our choice based on a topic that interested us.

For my project, I created an informative zine exploring how adoption impacts attachment styles and relationships. This topic deeply resonates with me as I was adopted from China as a baby and have personally experienced challenges forming secure relationships due to an anxious attachment style. The zine is designed specifically for international female adoptees in their 20s and 30s who are trying to understand their relationship patterns. Ultimately, I hope adoptees engaging with this guide will recognize their attachment patterns as valid responses to early experiences, gain language to describe their unique challenges, feel less alone in their struggles with connection, discover practical strategies for building healthier relationships, and understand that healing is possible.
